Curriculum.
The Victorian Essential Learning Standards provides the basis for curriculum planning, Prep - 6 at our School. It provides a framework for planning the whole school curriculum by setting out standards for students to achieve in the core areas.
Educational principles:
- Learning for all - proceeding on the basis that all students can learn given sufficient time and support.
- Pursuit of excellence - seeking to accomplish something noteworthy and admirable individually and collectively, and performing at one's best.
- Engagement and effort - acknowledging that student ability is only one factor in achievement and that if students work hard and make an effort they improve.
- Respect for evidence - seeking understanding and truth through structured inquiry and the application of evidence to test and question beliefs.
- Openness of mind - being willing to consider a range of different views and consider different ways in which evidence is perceived and solutions can be reached.

Information Communications Technology
We are committed to ensuring that children have access to the most up to date digital technologies. Consequently, our school has purchased 4 interactive whiteboards which operate throughout the school. We also have a ratio of 1-5 school computers that children access throughout the day.
Students are involved in the Mt Alexander Young Film Makers Festival.

Programs are provided through a mix of classroom and specialist teaching, strongly supported by a well equipped and resourced school library, visual arts and music department.
Sporting Activities, Electives, Camps and Excursions
Health and Physical Education:
Children are expected to participate in daily physical education activities and our focus is the Fundamental Motor Skills Program. Students have the opportunity to compete in district athletics, orienteering, netball, soccer and cross country running on a calendar date determined by our local cluster of schools.
Camps and Excursions:
Camps and excursions provide students with concrete and direct educational experiences of the world and are planned to complement the grade level program. All eligible students should attend. A local excursion form is signed at the beginning of the school year and this allows students to go on local excursions. At other times when children are required to use public transport a separate form is to be completed.
Environment Focus
Our school has a very strong environmental / science focus.
We are very proud of our high quality, developmental, innovative music program which is Music 4 All.
Music 4 All
We offer an exemplary music program. Music 4 All is an initiative from Castlemaine Secondary College and Monash University. The College provides teaching staff to facilitate the teaching of music in our school. Monash University is studying the project which is looking at the relationship between Music and Mathematics.
- Prep - 2: Structured singing program - Kodaly.
- Grade 3 - 4: Strings Program - all students are provided with a Violin / Cello or Viola.
- Grades 5 - 6: Instrumental music plus students are provided with either a trumpet, trombone, clarinet or flute.
Already the program is showing that children who play music are having improved results in some curriculum areas.
