What is happening at Maldon Primary School?

Maldon Primary School has a current enrolment of 81 students.  In 2020 we welcomed 10 new preps to our thriving school community.  We have 4 classrooms this year- a grade Prep/1, grade 1/2, grade 3/4 and grade 5/6. All junior classes (Prep-2) have 20 students or less which allows for individual focus and tailored learning.  We also have specialist Art, LOTE (Japanese) and Performing Art teachers, all of whom take classes one day per week.

In 2020 we are continuing on our journey of improvement, focusing on maximising student learning growth in reading, writing and mathematics. To achieve this we are utilising consistent teaching practices across the school, using data to inform our teaching direction and utilising personalised learning programs to ensure that every child reaches their full potential.

The second focus for the year is to improve student engagement in their learning, particularly in years 5 and 6. To improve student engagement students are given choice, wherever possible, in their learning and are also explicitly taught, and given opportunities to practise, leadership skills which are vital in our ever changing world.  A variety of leadership opportunities exist for our senior students and all Grade 5 and 6 students have the opportunity to pursue roles such as School Captain, House Captain and Student Representative Team member as well as other leadership roles within the classroom.

Our recently released 2019 Student Attitudes to School Survey results demonstrate that our senior students (Grades 4-6) are extremely happy at the school, thriving in a safe, engaging and stimulating learning environment. They are results of which we are VERY proud and demonstrate that our focus on student engagement is making a real difference!

Following on from our interior renovations in 2016/2017 we turned our attention to outside in 2018, “freshening” up the exterior of the building, with a new coat of paint to the weatherboards, gables and windows, planting around the BBQ area and rejuvenating our front garden. In 2019 we renovated the library/multi purpose room and are now in the process of renovating the Art room and constructing a “fairy garden” for the students to enjoy.

A reminder to all that Maldon Primary School offers both before and after school care! The service is provided by Castlemaine Child Care and operates out of the Japanese room.  For more information please go to the drop down box on the “ABOUT” tab above.
