What is happening at Maldon Primary School?

Maldon Primary School has a current enrolment of 90 students.  In 2021 we welcomed 11 new preps and 10 new students at other levels to our thriving school community.  We have 4 classrooms this year- a grade Prep/1, grade 2/3, grade 4/5 and grade 6. We also have specialist Art, LOTE (Japanese) and Performing Art teachers, all of whom take classes one day per week. In 2021 we will also have a dedicated Learning Tutor working regularly with small groups of students who did not progress as expected during the 2019 Covid-19 remote learning periods.

In 2021 we are continuing on our journey of improvement, focusing on maximising student learning growth in reading, writing and mathematics. To achieve this we are utilising consistent teaching practices across the school, using data to inform our teaching direction and utilising personalised learning programs to ensure that every child reaches their full potential.

The second focus for the year is to improve student engagement in their learning, particularly in years 5 and 6. To improve student engagement students are given choice, wherever possible, in their learning and are also explicitly taught, and given opportunities to practise, leadership skills which are vital in our ever changing world.  A variety of leadership opportunities exist for our senior students and all Grade 5 and 6 students have the opportunity to pursue roles such as School Captain, House Captain and Student Representative Team member as well as other leadership roles within the classroom.

Our recently released 2020 Student Attitudes to School Survey results demonstrate that our senior students (Grades 4-6) are extremely happy at the school, thriving in a safe, engaging and stimulating learning environment. They are results of which we are VERY proud and demonstrate that our focus on student engagement is making a real difference!

Our beautiful school has recently had an interior makeover and all our learning spaces are bright, spacious and welcoming. The astro turf soccer pitch/running track/cricket pitch, which has just been added to the school yard, is very popular with the students and compliments the red brick building beautifully!

A reminder to all that Maldon Primary School offers both before and after school care! The service is provided by Castlemaine Child Care and operates out of the Japanese room. For more information please go to the drop down box on the “ABOUT” tab above.
