What is happening at Maldon Primary School?

Maldon Primary School has a current enrolment of 89 students.  In 2023 we welcomed 17 new preps and 5 new students at other levels to our thriving school community.  We have 4 classrooms this year- a grade Prep/1, grade 2/3, grade 4/5 and grade 5/6. We also have specialist Art, LOTE (Japanese), Digital Technology and Performing Art teachers, all of whom take classes one day per week. In 2023 we will also have a dedicated Learning Tutor working regularly with small groups of students who require additional assistance in the areas of literacy and/or numeracy.

In 2023 we are continuing on our journey of improvement, focusing on maximising student learning growth in reading, writing and mathematics. To achieve this we are utilising consistent teaching practices across the school, using data to inform our teaching direction and utilising personalised learning programs to ensure that every child reaches their full potential.

Our second priority for 2023 is student wellbeing. Our school has a variety of measures in place to assist with student wellbeing including the availability of a school counsellor one day per week, art therapy sessions, the implementation of the school wide Respectful Relationships Program and a Disability Inclusion and Wellbeing Coordinator who assists teachers to establish learning plans for individual students including high achievers, low achievers and students with a disability.

Our Student Attitudes to School Survey results demonstrate that our senior students (Grades 4-6) are extremely happy at the school, thriving in a safe, engaging and stimulating learning environment. They are results of which we are VERY proud and demonstrate that our focus on student engagement is making a real difference!

Our beautiful school has recently had an interior makeover and all our learning spaces are bright, spacious and welcoming. Our extensive school grounds have something for everyone including ball game areas, cubby building space, exercise equipment, a playground and a newly turfed football oval. The astro turf soccer pitch/running track/cricket pitch, which was completed in 2021, is very popular with the students and compliments the red brick building beautifully!

A reminder to all that Maldon Primary School offers both before and after school care! The service is provided by Castlemaine Child Care and operates out of the Japanese room. For more information please go to the drop down box on the “ABOUT” tab above.
